This thirty-third edition of the Europajazz Festival (from April 21 to May 6) ends a year of very dense activity, along with a large program !
Check it out : the first So Blues Festival edition in November, some winter concerts, the incredible Michel Portal Regional Acoustic Tour, cultural and educational initiatives with 35 concerts in High Schools, Middle Schools, Retirement Homes, and correctional institutions. This is no longer the usual programming of a Festival but clearly one of a National Theatre… just for Jazz !
We feel more energetic than ever. We are looking forward to sharing this energy with all the different audiences from Le Mans to Nantes, Laval to Angers, Cholet to La Roche-s /-Yon, and from Alençon to Montjeant-sur-Loir. So here is this 33rd edition, which will be the ending of an excellent run from October to May !
The calendar is jam-packed with creations, completely new groups, and also young French bands, discoveries and of course a lot of very famous figures of today’s jazz, wether French, European or American : David Murray, Don Byron, Fred Hersch, Joachim Kühn, Jean-Paul Celea, Louis Sclavis, Eric Legnini, Hamid Drake, Barre Phillips, Joëlle Léandres, Keith Tippet, Paolo Damiani, Franscesco Bearzatti, Pascal Contet, André Minvielle, Pauline Oliveiros, Vincent Courtois, Peter Brotzmann etc.
What a pleasure to announce all these artists who are surely going to give their very best all through their performances.
Europajazz has been creative and innovative since the beginning. However Europajazz 2012 also wants to celebrate with a variety of popular events ; a tribute to Sidney Bechet with Europajazz en Balade, the 8thannual Nuit de la Salsa, the 2nd Nuit des Fanfares, the Cartoon Frenesie creation, and not to forget the Magic Mirrors, beautifully set in the center of Abbaye de l’Epau’s gardens with a program that will surprise and delight you.
